IT'S CALLED FRANKENFOOD FOR A REASON

What the heck are we eating?
Is it any wonder we're sick?
And while we're at it.....
why can't we know what is in our food?

I guess my question is: Why do we still allow additives in our food that is banned in other countries? There are foods that we think are healthy and then there are additives that are just gross.

Lets start with Brominated Vegetable Oil. Doesn't sound too bad, does it? It's basically an emulsifier but it's main ingredient is bromine. Bromine has been linked to birth defects and schizophrenia. It displaces iodine which may lead to thyroid problems. It's mainly found in sports drinks and soft drinks. Other countries have banned it's use.

Not us.

What about Azodicarbonamide? This is basically a bleach. Whereas some countries wait for the flour to whiten....well, we get a little impatient.  More than impatient...we want it NOW. Did you know that if we were in Singapore we could get 15 years in prison for using this chemical???? It's mainly used for sneaker soles and yoga mats. Who could taste it in the flour anyway?

You would think that good old milk would be healthy and good for you, wouldn't you? Well those cute little moo cows are injected with a growth hormone so they produce more milk. This IGF-1 (insulin growth factor) has been linked to breast, colon and prostate cancers.

No biggie.

How about a little arsenic with your chicken? The FDA allows it in the chicken feed because it promotes growth. Also the chicken looks pinker so it looks a lot fresher. Isn't that sweet? The European Union has banned the use of arsenic since 1999 and labeled it a carcinogen.

Yummy.

You know those yummy blueberry muffins? Do they really use blueberries? It could be propylene glycol. Just another chemical used to make fake blueberries. By the way, it's also used by the automobile industry to winterize RV's.

That puts a new perspective on those old muffins, doesn't it?

I think the one that I like the most is glyphosate. Ever had weeds in your yard and bought Round Up? That's what they spray on the crops. In fact, they spray so much that it's been found in the streams and even the air. We ingest this stuff. What does it do to us? Well, it has been linked to learning disabilities, obesity, birth defects, infertility and metabolic damage.

And I haven't even scratched the surface.

Why can't we have food that isn't filled with additives that can kill us?

Is it too much to ask for honest labeling?

Giving cows and chickens these chemicals.....well, it's frightening.

No wonder illnesses that were rare 30 years ago and running rampant today.

Progress has not been our friend.

IT'S NOT NICE TO FOOL MOTHER NATURE

What are we doing to our bodies?
Look at the little honeybee.
Do we ever learn?

Anyone who watched TV in the 70's knew about this commercial. I loved it. She ended by saying, "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature" and the little raccoon would hide his eyes. Never mind that it was for margarine that supposedly tasted like butter.....

What we see is often not what we get. The case in point is the simple little honeybee. They have been dying off and all indications point to the corn insecticides being the cause. Most people think they are buying good, wholesome food when they shop but that is simply not true. We can't even buy honey without looking at the label.

And some of the labels are not true.
What in heavens name are we doing?

Pollen has been filtered out of most of the honey that's on the shelves of the supermarkets today. Removing the pollen increases shelf life and, thereby, increases profits by eliminating waste. We import over 200 pounds of honey a year. Is this why American beekeepers are being forced out of business? It isn't bad enough that we can't get "real" honey but we import from China and an article I read states that Asian honey has been banned in Europe and is coming to a supermarket near you. Just as an FYI antibiotics and heavy metals were mentioned alongside this as well.

Raw honey has been labeled an anti-viral, anti-fungal and an anti-bacterial substance. In other words, in it's pure form, a superfood.

What happened to the days when all we had to do was wash the veggies under cold water to get off the dirt? It scares me how much has changed and it's not for the better. The more I read about Frankenfood the more I want to have my own garden. I have always thought that the prevalence of the diseases we see now has to do with the chemicals we ingest on a daily basis. I just attributed it to processed food. Now, I am beginning to see how "the good foods" are just as bad.

What have we done and is it irreversible?

What we've done with the feed, hormones and the antibiotics given to livestock.....is it any wonder that we are becoming immune to the very antibiotics that we might need to save our lives? Every day I hear about diseases that are resistant to antibiotics. If we haven't been overdosed on penicillin or other drugs by our doctors then we're getting it in our food. I can't help but think that this has to have an affect on our immune system.

I've always been against the theory that Fibromyalgia is a nutritional deficient illness. I don't think that we can take supplements and make it all go away. I do think that proper nutrition helps everyone and especially those with chronic illness. Everything seems to be in our heads. The disease is in our head, no big deal about the pesticides, chemicals, antibiotics and hormones in our food. What's next?

What happens to the natural food supply if the single, little honeybee becomes extinct? Fruit, vegetable, seed crops are dependent upon pollination. I think we've become arrogant and believe that we're smarter than nature. Not only smarter but that we can live independent of nature. Laboratories outweigh the value of nature and the natural.

I am in total agreement with the California referendum that is insisting that genetically modified food by disclosed on our labels. The FDA doesn't seem to want to demand that as well. Why? 55 members of Congress sent a letter to the FDA to ask them to label genetically modified food. Right now the policy is labeling for food that is materially changed by taste, sense or smell or other senses.

In other words, if we can't see it, taste it or smell it, we're screwed on labeling.

It's not nice to fool with mother nature.

We should be hiding our eyes.

It's not only scary, it's terrifying.

IT'S ON THE TIP OF MY TONGUE

Fake flavor.
It's no wonder we have a problem.
And it's only the tip of the iceberg.

I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist but I believe there is something to this. It all boils down to the consumer. Whatever it takes to make us buy, that's what the flavorists will do. Flavorists are scientists that specialize in the science of flavor. They use the field of chemistry to create natural and artificial flavors.

What it does is give processed food it's fabulous taste.

I mean, who didn't love McDonald's french fries? I could down a bag of fries before my husband could make it around the car. I'm definitely not a food snob but I've learned how to eat. I try not to eat processed food, however, every once in a while I like to sink my teeth into a Big Mac and fries. That is until I found out why I liked them so much.

Try that they used to fry them in a little cottonseed oil and beef tallow. I don't think they do that anymore but those fries used to be fantastic. Beef tallow? No wonder they were so fattening. Now they use "natural flavors." What have the chemists come up with to replicate that flavor?

I looked up strawberry shakes and I found that there are 59 chemicals in a fast food strawberry shake. There isn't a strawberry anywhere. Have the flavorists made processed food so attractive that the actual taste of real food tastes bland? I still say certain diseases seem a lot more prevalent now that when I was growing up. I hate to sound like an old lady and "my generation didn't do that" kind of thing but could the chemicals we have ingested for the last 40 years finally have caught up with us?

What have years of fast food done to us? I used to laugh and say the reason I don't have wrinkles is all the preservatives that I've eaten over the years. After looking at all of this it doesn't seem so funny anymore.

It's more like pathetic.

I think those of us with these invisible diseases or autoimmune issues need to be especially careful about what kind of food we put in our mouths. We need to read labels carefully. From what I've found out the only different between natural and artificial flavors is how they're distilled. That doesn't make me feel a whole lot better.

And let's not even start with that lovely little excitotoxin aspartame. Excitotoxins are chemicals, food additives or amino acids that over excite the brains neurons causing them to fire incessantly and burn out and die.

All these chemicals.

So many diseases.

And we wonder why............

We should be afraid.

Very afraid.
